Crawley Stabbing Now a Murder Investigation – Update on Arrest

Police have arrested a 26-year-old man on suspicion of murder after an early morning incident in Crawley (18 August).

Officers were called to Station Way at approximately 7:10 AM following reports of an altercation between a man and a woman. Upon arrival, the area was searched, and a woman was discovered in a nearby car park with stab injuries. Despite the efforts of paramedics, she was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.

A subsequent search was swiftly conducted, leading to the arrest of a man in Stephenson Road. The suspect, who is from Crawley, is currently in custody.

Superintendent Rachel Swinney commented on the situation, stating: “This is a tragic incident that has seen a young woman lose her life, and we are working hard to understand exactly what has happened. Officers were able to swiftly bring a suspect into custody, and we are not currently searching for anyone else.”

She added that there would be an increased police presence in the busy area of Crawley as enquiries continue. Superintendent Swinney urged anyone with concerns to approach officers at the scene and encouraged anyone with information related to the incident to contact the police online or via 101, quoting Operation Venn.

The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to determine the circumstances leading up to the tragic event.
