A motorist was fined and handed penalty points after police discovered the vehicle stopped on the hard shoulder of the M9 motorway near Stirling for a non-emergency reason.
Officers from Stirling’s Road Policing Unit were patrolling the motorway when they observed the vehicle stationary on the hard shoulder. Upon investigation, they found the driver had stopped to capture drone footage of Stirling Castle.
Hard Shoulder Misuse
The police reminded motorists that the hard shoulder is strictly reserved for emergencies. Using it for non-essential purposes not only violates traffic laws but also poses a risk to other road users.
The driver was issued a £100 fine and three penalty points for the offence.
Police Reminder
In a lighthearted yet serious statement, police emphasized:
“Hard shoulders are for emergencies! Stopping to take drone footage is not an emergency, no matter how majestic Stirling Castle may look.
Authorities urge drivers to prioritize safety and adhere to road laws to avoid penalties and ensure smooth traffic flow.
