Elderly Woman’s Mobility Scooter Stolen, Salford Police Appeal For Information

Salford police are urgently seeking information from the public following the theft and damage of an elderly woman’s mobility scooter. The incident occurred on Lawndale Drive in Worsley at approximately 13.00 BST on October 12, 2023.

The victim, an 85-year-old woman, expressed her distress, stating that she now feels “stranded” and has lost her independence. Due to medical and age-related reasons, she heavily relies on her mobility scooter to make short trips to local shops or catch a bus.

PC Anthony Devall emphasised the impact of this incident on the victim’s life, saying, “The scooter is her lifeline, and unfortunately, it has been damaged beyond repair. This has left her feeling isolated and unable to carry out daily activities she once enjoyed.”

According to witnesses, two youths were seen moving the stolen scooter to the bus station, where it was left severely damaged. The victim, deeply affected by the incident, expressed her sadness and disbelief, saying, “I am not one for sitting in and I don’t watch much television, so there’s nothing much for me to do at home. I have lost my independence, and it is disheartening to think that someone would do this without any apparent reason.”

Authorities are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has knowledge of the whereabouts of the stolen scooter to come forward. Information can be shared with the police by contacting [email protected] and quoting log 10-12102023. Alternatively, individuals can report online or use the LiveChat function available at http:///www.gmp.police.uk. If reporting online is not possible, the police can be reached at 101, and anonymous tips can be provided to Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111.
