An explosion caused by a high-voltage underground cable surge rocked Ladbroke Road on the evening of Tuesday, 20 May, injuring two people and prompting a swift response from emergency services.
What Happened
At around 9pm, a sudden electrical surge caused a cable beneath the street to rupture violently, blasting debris into the air and leaving a visible crater on the road surface. Two individuals caught in the blast were reportedly thrown backwards by the force of the explosion.
One person was treated at the scene by London Ambulance Service crews for burn injuries, while the second was taken to hospital, where they remain undergoing treatment for more serious injuries. The extent of their condition has not yet been disclosed.
