Tragedy struck in Kirkby today as a man lost his life in a serious road traffic collision. The incident occurred at the junction of Moorgate Road and East Lancashire Road on the Liverpool-bound carriageway. The collision involved a white Volkswagen Sirocco car and a cyclist. Emergency services were alerted just before 7am and the 25-year-old male cyclist was rushed to the hospital. Unfortunately, despite medical efforts, he was pronounced dead shortly after. The cyclist’s next of kin have been informed and are receiving support from trained officers.
A 45-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident. He is currently in custody and will be questioned by authorities on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, driving a vehicle while unfit through drugs, and driving a vehicle with a proportion of a specified controlled drug above the limit.
Merseyside Police Serious Collision Investigation Unit is appealing for witnesses to come forward and provide any CCTV or dash camera footage that may have captured the incident. Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and called for the public’s cooperation in the investigation. He asked anyone with information to contact the police and emphasised the importance of every piece of information in establishing what happened.
