A serious road traffic collision involving a heavy goods vehicle (HGV) and a car occurred outside HMP Thameside on Griffin Manor Way, Thamesmead, on Tuesday, 8 October 2024.
Emergency services were alerted to the scene at approximately just after 4.30pm following reports of two persons trapped in the wreckage, one of whom was pregnant and unconscious.
Local residents and motorists have been advised to avoid the area while emergency services attend to the situation. Further updates will follow as more information becomes available.

UPDATE
Police responded to reports of a collision on Western Way at 4:22 p.m. today (Tuesday). A woman involved in the crash was transported to the hospital, where her injuries were confirmed as non-life-threatening and non-life-changing.

No arrests have been made in connection with the incident at this stage.
During the response, Western Way Southbound at Battery Road was partially blocked, with a detour put in place for bus route 244 to manage traffic flow.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson stated: “Police were called at 4.22 p.m., one woman was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening and non-life-changing injuries. No arrests have been made.”
The road has since been cleared, and normal traffic conditions are resuming.
