A devastating fire tore through a house on Renshaw Close, Catford, early yesterday morning, destroying the first floor and loft conversion. The blaze prompted a massive response, with eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters tackling the incident.
Firefighters rescued a woman from the roof of the property using a nine-metre ladder. According to Station Commander Mike Watts, the woman had climbed onto the roof to escape the fire but began slipping from the pitched surface. A firefighter on a ladder secured her while a second ladder was erected to bring them both safely to the ground.
