Lorry Driver Fined for Using Mobile Phone and Gesturing at Police on M20

A lorry driver was issued an on-the-spot fine and penalty points after being caught using his mobile phone while driving on the M20 and making an obscene gesture at officers in an unmarked police car.

Kent Roads Policing Unit (RPU) officers spotted the driver using his phone on two separate occasions. When the driver noticed the officers, he responded by raising his middle finger at them.

Immediate Action

Officers stopped the lorry and issued the driver with a £200 fine and six penalty points for using a mobile phone while driving.

The Kent RPU highlighted the incident on social media, tweeting:

#RPU3 Lorry driver spotted using his mobile phone whilst driving on The M20 on two occasions decided to stick his middle finger up to the officers in the unmarked car. He was stopped and issued on-the-spot £200 fine & 6 points for his actions. #Fatal4 #Embarrassed #GoosenAmes”

Safety Message

The use of mobile phones while driving is one of the “Fatal Four” behaviors that significantly increase the risk of collisions, alongside speeding, driving under the influence, and not wearing a seatbelt.

Kent Police reminded road users that such reckless behavior endangers lives and will be met with strict enforcement. This incident serves as a clear warning that disrespecting traffic laws—and officers enforcing them—will lead to consequences.
