Lorry Fire Closes M26 Eastbound in Kent, Drivers Advised to Expect Delays

A lorry fire has forced the closure of the M26 eastbound between M25 J5 (Chipstead) and J2A (near Wrotham Heath), causing significant disruption to traffic.

The incident, which occurred earlier today, has led to a full eastbound closure of the motorway as emergency services work to extinguish the blaze and ensure safety at the scene.

Emergency Response

Kent Fire and Rescue Service is on-site battling the fire, while National Highways Traffic Officers are managing traffic in the affected area. Once the fire is under control, crews will clear debris and inspect the road surface for any damage before reopening the carriageway.

Diversion in Place

Drivers are being directed to follow the recommended diversion:

  1. Continue on the M25 anti-clockwise from J5 for approximately 7 miles to J3.
  2. Exit the M25 anti-clockwise at J3 and take the 4th exit onto the M20 eastbound towards Dover.
  3. Stay on the M20 eastbound for approximately 6 miles to J2.
  4. Exit at J2 and use the A20 to reach M26 J2A (near Wrotham Heath) or continue eastbound to M20 J3.

Drivers unable to exit the M25 at J5 for the A21/A25 are advised to continue to J4, exit, and rejoin the M25 clockwise to access the A21/A25.
