Major Incident Declared in Croydon After Crash and Hazmat Situation; 2000 People Evacuated

Emergency services are dealing with a major incident involving a road traffic collision near Moys Close, Croydon. The incident, which occurred just after 1am on Sunday, September 29, has led to the evacuation of over 2000 people from their homes and significant road closures in the area.

Police have reported that a person may be trapped following the collision near Mitcham Road. The incident has prompted authorities to evacuate residents to a safe distance while emergency crews carry out their operations following a gas main being damaged.

Several fire engines from the London Fire Brigade, including additional officers and hazmat teams, are at the scene to deal with the situation and ensure public safety.  London Ambulance has sent a HART team and Paramedics to the scene. The exact nature of the hazardous materials involved has not been disclosed, and emergency responders are working to secure the area.
