The A2 Old Kent Road, a major arterial route in South London, was closed for over four and a half hours this afternoon following a serious collision between a car and a cyclist.

Officers from the Metropolitan Police Collision Investigation Unit, based in Catford, attended the scene to carry out a detailed investigation. The road remains closed as investigators continue their work to establish the circumstances surrounding the collision.

The vehicle involved sustained significant damage, though the driver was reported to be in a non-serious condition. The driver has since been arrested and is currently in police custody.

Authorities are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward to assist with their investigation. Motorists are advised to avoid the area as the road closure is expected to cause significant delays.
A Spokesman for the Met Police said: Police were called at 4.31pm on Wednesday, 23 October to a report of a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian on Old Kent Road near to Peckham Park Road, SE15.
Officers, the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance all attended. The pedestrian, a man in his 20s, was taken to hospital. His condition has been assessed as not life-threatening.
One man was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving. He remains in custody.
