Motorist Ignores Road Signs and Drives Wrong Way on A24

Sussex Police have issued a warning to motorists after a driver narrowly avoided multiple head-on collisions while driving the wrong way on the A24.

Peter Byrne, the driver in question, failed to heed road signs at Southwater and instead followed incorrect sat nav instructions, putting himself and others in grave danger.

Police are sharing details of the case as a stark reminder for all drivers to remain fully aware of road signs and traffic directions rather than relying solely on technology.

Roads Policing Unit officer PC Mark Gregory stated: “The case highlights that drivers must be more aware of road signs and directions, and not just simply follow a satnav instruction. Byrne has learned this expensive lesson in court, but is also fortunate not to have caused a serious collision.”

Authorities are urging drivers to remain vigilant and ensure they make informed decisions while on the road to prevent similar dangerous incidents.
