Norwich Airport was forced to shut down suddenly this afternoon after a light aircraft suffered a landing incident, leading to urgent cancellations and diversions of flights.
As a result of the incident, the airport’s runway was immediately closed and is expected to remain out of action until at least 5pm while recovery operations take place.

Several flights have already been impacted:

  • An inbound TUI flight from Tenerife was diverted to London Stansted Airport.
  • A KLM flight scheduled to depart for Amsterdam at 2.05pm was cancelled.

Passengers are being advised to check with their airlines for the latest updates on their flights. Norwich Airport has said further updates will be issued soon.

The sudden shutdown comes amid a busy weekend of travel, and authorities are working to minimise disruption where possible.
