The incident took place shortly before 06:55 GMT on the A1068 Fisher Lane, leading to the road’s southbound closure between the A1172 Station Road roundabout and the Foxton Mill roundabout.
Emergency services responded to reports of a collision involving two cars, a black BMW 3 Series 335d, and a black Volkswagen Jetta, both traveling southbound. The vehicles separately collided with a fallen tree on the road, leading to life-threatening injuries for the BMW driver.
The investigation aims to establish the full circumstances of the collision, and authorities are urging any additional witnesses to come forward. The road closure is anticipated to last until at least Friday, January 26, allowing officers to conduct thorough enquiries safely.
