Police Appeal for Witnesses After Suspected Arson in Epsom

Surrey Police are appealing for witnesses and information following a suspected arson attack in Epsom that left a car destroyed.

Officers were called to Bishopsmead Close shortly before 10:20 pm on Friday, 7 February, after reports that a white Volvo had been deliberately set alight on a residential driveway.

Emergency services responded quickly, and firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze before it spread to nearby properties. Thankfully, no injuries were reported, but the vehicle sustained significant damage.

Suspect Description

The suspect involved in the incident has been described as:

  • A man of slightly below average height
  • Of slim to average build
  • Wearing a dark-coloured puffed jacket with a fur-lined hood
  • Wearing dark-coloured loose-fitting trousers and dark trainers

The individual was seen leaving the scene shortly after the fire began.

Ongoing Investigation

Officers from Surrey Police’s Epsom and Ewell Beat are conducting a full investigation, including house-to-house enquiries and reviewing available CCTV footage in the area. They are urging anyone who was in the vicinity of Bishopsmead Close between 9:30 pm and 10:30 pm on the night of the incident to come forward.

“We’re appealing for anyone who might have seen anything suspicious in the area around the time of the incident,” said a spokesperson for Surrey Police. “Even the smallest detail could help us identify the person responsible.”

Call for Dash Cam and CCTV Footage

Police are particularly interested in hearing from residents who may have:

  • CCTV or doorbell camera footage covering Bishopsmead Close during the time frame
  • Dash cam footage from vehicles passing through the area
  • Helmet cam footage from cyclists or motorcyclists
