UPDATED:Police closed M25 after two sinkholes appear in the Central Reservation
The M25 motorway between junction four and junction five has been closed following a single vehicle road traffic collision and the discovery of a number of sinkholes. The collision has, in turn, lead to to the discovery of two sinkholes in the central Reservation. Officers from Kent Roads Policing have put in the closure and are now awaiting the arrival of a Highways England Road inspector. A diversion route has been put in place and Highways England has issued the following statement: The M25 in Kent is closed in both directions between J4 and J5 due to a serious carriageway defect. Kent Police" id="85778">Kent Police are currently in attendance and Highways England Contractors are en-route to the scene.
Road users travelling clockwise are advised to follow the “Hollow Triangle” diversion symbols. Exit at J4 then take the 2nd exit on to the M25 link towards London. At Hewitts roundabout take the 1st exit on to the A224 towards Dunton Green. At the B2211 roundabout take the 1st exit on to the A224 over the M25 towards Sevenoaks. At the A25 mini roundabout at Riverhead, take the 2nd exit on to the A25 towards the M25. At the second mini roundabout, turn right at the traffic signals on to the M25 Spur Road. Take the M25 exit slip road at M25 J5 interchange to re-join the M25 towards Gatwick.
Road users travelling anti-clockwise are advised to follow the “hollow Square” diversion symbols. From M25 junction 5 follow the A21 Sevenoaks. On M25 spur/A21 take the 1st exit A25 towards Sevenoaks and follow the A25 to Riverhead. At the roundabout take the 1st exit on to the M25 towards Maidstone. At the next roundabout take the 1st exit on to the A224 towards Bromley. Continue along the A224, cross the M26 and then the M25 and at the roundabout take the 3rd exit towards Bromley. Follow the A224/A21 Hewitts roundabout and take the 5th exit M25 link to the junction. At junction 4 roundabout take the 1st exit to re-join the M25 towards the Dartford Crossing.
