Person Dies After Being Hit by Train Near Richmond — Major South Western Railway Delays

A person has died after being struck by a train near North Sheen station, causing significant disruption across the South Western Railway network this afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 12:30pm, with both police and paramedics in attendance. Sadly, the person was pronounced dead at the scene.

A British Transport Police spokesperson confirmed:
“Officers were called to North Sheen railway station at around 12.30pm today (11 June) following reports of a casualty on the tracks. Paramedics also attended; however, a person was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

Trains were delayed by up to 60 minutes, and service alterations included:

  • Waterloo to Windsor & Eton Riverside services diverted via Hounslow

  • Waterloo to Reading services diverted

  • Waterloo circular routes via Kingston and Strawberry Hill were cancelled

Services Resume

Network Rail confirmed that lines reopened at around 3:40pm, but residual delays continued until 6:00pm as the network recovered.
