A stabbing incident in Hackney this evening has led to the enforcement of a Section 60 order, granting police enhanced stop-and-search powers as they work to prevent further violence.
Hackney Police confirmed that officers responded to reports of a stabbing that resulted in non-life-threatening injuries. In addition, multiple calls were made to authorities about groups of males seen fighting with knives in the area, escalating concerns over public safety.
The Section 60 Criminal Justice and Public Order Act (CJPO) was authorized at 6:00 PM and will remain in effect until 6:00 AM on Sunday, February 23. The order allows officers to stop and search individuals without the usual requirement for reasonable suspicion.
