Firefighters swiftly responded to a fire at a suspected cannabis factory in Abbey Wood over the weekend. The incident occurred at a residence on Ampleforth Road, where it is believed that the house was being used for the cultivation of cannabis.

At 9.15pm on Saturday night, January 27, four fire engines and 25 firefighters were dispatched to tackle the blaze. The fire had already consumed most of the first floor and roof of the property by the time the emergency services arrived.

Eight individuals residing in neighbouring homes had evacuated their premises before the London Fire Brigade’s arrival, ensuring their safety. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries as a result of the incident.

The firefighters from Plumstead, East Greenwich, and Bexley fire stations worked diligently to control the blaze, and their efforts led to the incident being brought under control by 11.19pm the same night.

Cannabis factory fires pose significant risks due to the unsafe electrical wiring commonly used by criminals to illegally obtain electricity for the cultivation of cannabis plants. These operations are often situated on upper floors or in lofts, which can result in rapid fire spread, leading to extensive damage, including destroyed roofs and harm to neighbouring buildings.
