British Transport Police (BTP) have arrested a man after a 17-year-old girl reported being harassed and stalked on a train journey to Burnley.

The alarming incident was reported last week when the teenager contacted BTP, stating that a man had been persistently harassing and following her throughout her journey.

Swift Action by BTP Within 24 hours of the report being filed, BTP officers from the Preston unit tracked down and arrested the suspect.

In a public statement, British Transport Police said:

“We will not tolerate this behaviour on the railway network.

Text 61016 and let us know if you ever need us.”

The police continue to urge passengers to report any suspicious behaviour immediately. Officers are committed to ensuring that railways remain safe spaces for everyone, particularly for vulnerable passengers.

Protecting Passengers on the Railways

The BTP has increased patrols and awareness campaigns across the network to tackle incidents of harassment, stalking, and unwanted sexual behaviour. Victims are encouraged to use the discreet text service 61016 to alert officers.

Reports made through the text service are treated with urgency, allowing officers to respond swiftly, as demonstrated in this latest incident.
