The family of Harvey Nye, a 19-year-old motorcyclist who tragically lost his life in a road collision on the A386 between Plymouth and Yelverton, have paid tribute to their “kind and caring” son.
The fatal incident occurred around 11.55 am on Friday 14 February in the Roborough area, involving Harvey’s black Yamaha MT 125 motorcycle and a red Manitou Telehandler. Despite the swift response from emergency services, Harvey was pronounced dead at the scene.
In a heartfelt statement, Harvey’s family expressed their profound grief:
“Harvey Nye, aged 19 years of age, sadly lost his life in a road traffic collision. He was a kind, caring, loving young man who loved life. He loved his family and friends as much as he loved his bikes. He made an impact of laughter on everyone he met. He passed away riding his favourite MT125cc. As a family, we are extremely devastated and will never come to terms with what’s happened.”
The family has asked for privacy during this difficult time and requested that speculation surrounding the circumstances of the collision be kept to a minimum.
Community in Mourning
The local community has been deeply affected by the news of Harvey’s passing, with tributes pouring in on social media. Friends and fellow bikers have shared memories of Harvey, describing him as a “bright soul” who brought laughter and positivity to everyone he met.
A local memorial ride has been proposed by friends in honour of Harvey’s passion for motorcycling, with details to be announced once the family gives their blessing.
Police Appeal for Information
The A386 was closed for several hours while officers from the Roads Policing Team conducted an investigation at the scene. Police have thanked the public for their patience during the road closure and are now appealing for witnesses to come forward.
A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said:
“We are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding this tragic collision. We are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage from the area around the time of the collision.”
Anyone with information is urged to contact the police via their website or by calling 101, quoting log 288 of 14 February.
