Two Metropolitan Police officers are under criminal investigation for potential driving offences after a tragic collision in south-east London resulted in the deaths of a pregnant woman and her baby.
The incident occurred on 17 October on Kidbrooke Park Road, Eltham, when an unmarked police car collided with a vehicle driven by the 38-year-old woman, who was in the full term of her pregnancy.
Despite the efforts of emergency services, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Doctors performed an emergency C-section in a desperate attempt to save her baby, but the infant sadly passed away later in the hospital.

Investigation Underway
The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has confirmed that two officers involved in the incident are under criminal investigation for potential driving offences.
A spokesperson for the IOPC stated:
“We are investigating the circumstances surrounding this tragic collision, including the actions and conduct of the officers involved. Our thoughts remain with the family and loved ones of those who have died.
The IOPC emphasized that being under criminal investigation does not mean charges will necessarily follow, and the inquiry is ongoing.
Impact on the Community
The incident has left the local community shocked and mourning the loss of the woman and her baby. Residents have called for greater transparency regarding the circumstances of the collision and the role of the unmarked police vehicle.
One resident said:
“It’s heartbreaking to think of the lives lost in this way. There needs to be accountability and answers for this family.”
Police Statement
The Metropolitan Police expressed their condolences to the family, stating:
“This is a devastating incident, and our thoughts are with the family during this incredibly difficult time. We are fully cooperating with the IOPC investigation.”
Calls for Witnesses
