Tragedy struck in Northumberland as two teenagers lost their lives, and three individuals were hospitalized following a three-car collision on the A192 Hartford Bank in Cramlington.
The devastating incident occurred on Friday, December 22, around 9:30 PM, when authorities received reports of a collision involving a Suzuki Vitara, a Range Rover Evoque, and a Ford Focus. Emergency services promptly responded to the scene, where paramedics and members of the public made heroic efforts to save lives.
Despite their courageous efforts, an 18-year-old man who was inside the Suzuki, identified as Connor Lapworth from Blyth, was pronounced dead at the scene. Tragically, his life was cut short in the aftermath of the collision.
A 15-year-old boy, also in the Suzuki, sustained serious head injuries and was transported to the hospital. Despite medical intervention, he passed away on Saturday, December 23. He has been identified as Corey Mavin, also from Blyth.
The families of the victims are receiving support from specialist Family Liaison Officers during this profoundly distressing time.
Furthermore, a 41-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy, both occupants of the Suzuki, sustained serious injuries and were admitted to the hospital for treatment. They continue to receive medical care.
The 36-year-old female driver of the Range Rover endured serious injuries and was transported to the hospital, while the 52-year-old female driver of the Ford Focus emerged from the incident without injuries.
Northumbria Police have issued an appeal to any witnesses of the incident to come forward with information. Sergeant Russell Surrey of Northumbria Police’s Motor Patrols department expressed condolences, stating, “This is a tragic incident, and our thoughts are firmly with the family and loved ones of the two young people who have sadly lost their lives and those who have suffered injuries in this collision.
Sgt. Surrey added, “We will offer them all of the support they need and ask that their privacy is respected at this time. We are asking that anyone who may have seen the moments leading up to the collision or have information regarding the three vehicles involved being driven in the area to contact us immediately.”
Authorities are also requesting dashcam footage from individuals who were in the vicinity at the time of the incident, as even the smallest piece of information could help in determining the exact sequence of events leading to this tragic accident.
