At around 9.20pm on Friday 24 November 2023, a blue BMW M3 convertible was travelling along Pier Road, when it was involved in a collision with a pedestrian near the junction with Mariners View. The pedestrian, a man in his 60s, sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital where he died on Sunday 24 December.
