Marshall Spelzini, 22, Named as Victim of Fatal Collision Near St Nicholas-at-Wade

A young footballer has tragically died after the van he was a passenger in collided with a stationary road sweeper on the A299 London-bound near St Nicholas-at-Wade.

The crash occurred at 6:49 PM on Tuesday, 26 February, when a white Fiat Ducato truck struck the parked road sweeper, which is suspected to have broken down prior to the incident.

The passenger, who was killed at the scene, has been named locally as Marshall Spelzini, a talented footballer who played for Cinque Ports FC. He had previously played for Dover Rangers FC, Deal Town Rangers, and Dover Town Wanderers.

Driver in Serious Condition

The driver of the Fiat Ducato, a man in his 20s, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the hospital for urgent treatment. Meanwhile, the driver of the road sweeper, a man in his 60s, escaped with minor injuries.

Police Appeal for Information

Kent Police have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash and are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.

A police spokesperson said:
“We are keen to speak to anyone who saw the collision or the events leading up to it. If you were in the area or have relevant footage, please contact us.”
