Fire ‘Highly Visible’, Area Packed with Onlookers

Station Commander Tony Perks, speaking from the scene, described it as a “highly visible fire”, with over 40 emergency calls made to LFB from concerned members of the public.

“This was a very visible fire and the area became increasingly busy as a result. People are advised to continue to avoid the area while crews damp down remaining hotspots.”

Smoke was seen billowing from the building, with dramatic footage showing crews using raised platforms to blast water directly into the affected flat.

Resident Escaped Before Crews Arrived

A woman managed to flee the flat before firefighters arrived. There are no reports of injuries at this stage, but the London Ambulance Service remains on standby as a precaution.

Crews Remain at Scene

Firefighters from Dowgate, Dockhead, Soho, Whitechapel and other nearby stations remain on scene as operations continue. The blaze is now under control, but crews are expected to remain at the site to monitor for any flare-ups.

Members of the public are urged to avoid the area due to smoke and congestion, and bus routes are expected to face delays or diversions.
