Ammunition Stash found on a Portsmouth Beach
Police and Coastguard teams where called to a Portsmouth beach last night after ammunition boxes where found. The nine boxes were found closed and neatly aligned on Clarence Esplanade in Southsea just after 15.20 on Thursday. Coastguard Rescue officers threw up a safety cordon and stopped members of public from entering the beach or approaching the boxes until the Police had attended and checked the contents. Officers from Hampshire Constabulary attended area and a search discovered that most of the boxes were empty however one box contained a large number of bullet casings. Police removed the boxes and steps are now being made to trace the owners.
