Armed police rushed to a Birmingham street today after a savage stabbing outside a primary school left a man fighting for his life. A 32-year-old suspect is in custody following the attack that also left a woman injured but in a stable condition.

Primary School Locked Down Amid Knife Horror

At 12:06pm, West Midlands Police flooded Bridge Street in Alum Rock after chilling reports of a stabbing. The nearby primary school was immediately locked down as ambulances and an air ambulance scrambled to the scene.

Armed counter-terror units and police dogs sealed off the area. Witnesses described terrifying scenes, including a passer-by attempting to ram the attacker with a car as he stabbed his victim, before the assailant fled into a nearby residential block.

Shocking CPR Effort Caught on Scene

Officers have been seen desperately performing lifesaving CPR on the victim lying motionless on the road. A bloodied woman screamed from an upstairs window, adding to the chaos of the brutal attack.

Armed police have since withdrawn, with West Midlands Police calling the stabbing a “contained incident.”

Police Urge Witnesses to Speak Out

Detective Superintendent James Munro said, “We believe this to be a contained incident with a man in custody. We are reviewing CCTV footage and speaking to witnesses, but urge anyone with information to come forward.”

Anyone who witnessed the attack or has mobile phone or dashcam footage is urged to contact police on 101 quoting log number 2105 of 3 March. Alternatively, information can be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

The community remains shaken, with extra officers now patrolling to reassure residents after the terrifying attack right opposite a primary school.
