Police are hunting for answers after a 17-year-old girl was brutally raped near a canal in Coventry, West Midlands. The chilling attack has left the community reeling as officers keep the area sealed off.
Two Teens Arrested for Canal Attack
The shocking incident occurred on Sunday, March 15, in Rowleys Green. Officers quickly cordoned off part of Longford Canal to investigate.
West Midlands Police have charged two teenagers: a 17-year-old boy with rape, and an 18-year-old man with sexual assault.
“We have charged two teenagers after a 17-year-old girl was sexually assaulted and raped in the Rowleys Green area of Coventry on March 15,” said a police spokesperson. “An 18-year-old boy has been charged with sexual assault and a 17-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been charged with rape. Both are due to appear at Warwick Crown Court on April 15.”
Separate Sexual Assault Sparks Police Manhunt in Oxford
In a disturbing separate case, Thames Valley Police are hunting a suspect after a woman in her 20s was sexually assaulted near Oxford’s John Radcliffe Hospital.
The unprovoked attack happened around 10pm on January 30 at a car park access road between Saxon Way and the hospital on Headley Way.
Police have released CCTV footage of a man they believe holds vital information and urge anyone with tips to come forward immediately.
