A Derbyshire man has been slammed with a hefty 24-year prison sentence after being found guilty of sexually abusing two children, Derbyshire Police confirmed.
Mark Kearney’s Nightmare: From Arrest to Conviction
Mark Kearney, 55, was arrested in November 2024 following reports of abuse. He faced multiple charges, including rape of a child under 13, assault by penetration, incitement to sexual activity, and forcing children to view sexual images.
Despite denying all accusations, Kearney was found guilty on every count during his trial at Derby Crown Court in April 2025.
Heavy Sentence and Lifetime Police Registration
At his sentencing hearing on 26 February 2026, Kearney—who has no fixed address—was handed a 24-year prison term. An additional six years of extended licence will follow his release. He must also register with the police indefinitely.
Police Praise Victims’ Bravery
Detective Constable Danielle Lynch said: “This has been an incredibly distressing case, and I want to commend the courage shown by both victims in coming forward and supporting the investigation.”
