A man caught behind the wheel while drunk and involved in several crashes across Swindon has been slapped with a hefty driving ban.
Rares Rotaru’s Road Rampage
Rares Rotaru, 34, from Slough, pleaded guilty to a string of offences: drink driving, failing to provide a breath test, fleeing the scene of accidents, and driving without a licence. On March 23, he was hit with a massive 48-month driving disqualification.
Danger on the A419 and Beyond
- On January 24, police received calls about a Citroen van being driven dangerously on the A419, with eyewitnesses claiming the driver tried to force other cars off the road.
- The same day, officers responded to a collision at Waitrose, Mill Lane, where the white Citroen van involved fled without stopping.
- Later, in Broome Manor Lane, Rotaru admitted to being drunk after a crash but again tried to make a run for it.
Justice Served
“Rotaru begged the other driver not to report the collision in Broome Manor Lane, hoping to skate by without getting caught,” said Det Sgt Scott Young. “Thanks to quick reports from the public and detailed descriptions, officers tracked him down on the M4 and arrested him.”
Besides the driving ban, Rotaru received an eight-week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months. He was also ordered to pay a £154 surcharge and £85 costs to the CPS.
Rotaru’s reckless ride is a stark reminder: drink-driving wrecks lives — and you will be caught.
