Firefighters rushed to a six-storey derelict building on Barclay Road, Croydon, after flames erupted just after 9am today (March 12).

One Injured and Traffic Chaos

The fire damaged part of the ground floor, prompting paramedics to treat one person for smoke inhalation at the scene. Barclay Road was shut eastbound, causing heavy traffic delays across the area.


 

Fire Under Control and Road Reopened

Thankfully, the blaze was brought under control by 11.20am and the road has since reopened, easing congestion.

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “Firefighters responded to a fire on Barclay Road, Croydon. The fire was located in a derelict building of six floors. Part of the ground floor was damaged by the fire.”

“A member of the public was treated on scene by paramedics from the London Ambulance Service for smoke inhalation.

“The Brigade was first called about the incident at 0911, and crews had the fire under control by 1121.”
