Flames tore through a six-storey derelict building on Barclay Road, Croydon, sparking chaos this morning. Firefighters raced to the scene just after 9am on March 12 to tackle the blaze.
One Injured as Smoke Sparks Emergency Response
The fire severely damaged the ground floor, forcing paramedics to treat one person for smoke inhalation right at the scene. Barclay Road was shut eastbound, sparking heavy traffic delays throughout the area.
Blaze Brought Under Control — Road Reopens
Thankfully, firefighters had the fire under control by 11.20am. Barclay Road has now reopened, easing the traffic nightmare in Croydon.
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “Firefighters responded to a fire on Barclay Road, Croydon. The fire was located in a derelict building of six floors. Part of the ground floor was damaged by the fire.”
“A member of the public was treated on scene by paramedics from the London Ambulance Service for smoke inhalation. The Brigade was first called about the incident at 09:11, and crews had the fire under control by 11:21.”
