A ruthless romance fraudster has been locked up for more than seven years after conning men into pouring tens of thousands of pounds into her extravagant lifestyle.
Model’s Web of Lies
Gemma Kingsley, 50, from Beadnell, Northumberland, spun a tangled web of deceit over four years targeting vulnerable men. She tricked them into believing she was about to inherit a fortune, convincing them to splash huge sums on her, including a wedding that never happened.
On top of financial trickery, she stole money by using fake bank cards and forged documents to pay for luxury hotel stays and costly purchases.
- Admitted 6 counts of theft
- 4 counts of fraud by false representation
- 2 counts of using false documents
- 1 count of possessing fraudulent articles
Today at Swindon Crown Court, Kingsley was sentenced to seven years and seven months in jail.
Police Investigation Unveils Massive Scam
Wiltshire Police began their probe in 2019 after Kingsley fraudulently used her mother’s friend’s bank details to pay for a hotel stay. The investigation uncovered numerous other frauds across several police forces, focusing on romance fraud cases dating back to 2016.
Victims were duped through fake promises of a multi-million-dollar inheritance backed up by forged letters. One victim was hoodwinked into spending £30,000 on furniture, dental bills, and even wedding costs, believing he’d be repaid when the inheritance arrived.
She also drained victims’ bank accounts, opened betting accounts in their names, and racked up gambling losses on their money.
Victims Speak Out
One victim revealed the lasting devastation: “It has had a significant financial, emotional, psychological and personal impact on me which continues to be felt more than six years later.”
“Kingsley exploited my trust, and even when I tried to pull away, she falsely claimed to be pregnant with twins. Her lies didn’t stop there — she manipulated my family and caused chaos in my life.”
Police Praise Persistence in Locking Up Con Artist
DC Chris Hemns from the Fraud team said: “Kingsley is a cold-hearted manipulator who caused long-term distress to her victims. She lied throughout our investigation and only admitted guilt before trial.”
“Our hard work prevented her from targeting anyone else. Even when served a court summons, her first question was, ‘How did you find me?’ I want to thank the brave victims who have helped bring her to justice.”
