Buckingham Palace has confirmed the King’s highly anticipated state visit to the United States will go ahead as planned. This comes amid pressure from some quarters to delay or cancel the trip because of the ongoing Middle East conflict.
Historic Trip Set for Late April
The visit is expected to take place in late April, with exact dates to be announced closer to the time. The palace said the King and Queen will accept the invitation from the US President and focus on celebrating the deep historic ties and modern relationship between the two nations.
“On the advice of His Majesty’s Government, and at the invitation of the President of the United States, the King and Queen will undertake a state visit to the United States of America,” a Buckingham Palace spokesperson said. “Their Majesties’ programme will celebrate the historic connections and the modern bilateral relationship between the United Kingdom and the United States, marking the 250th anniversary of American independence.”
First Overseas Territory Visit as Monarch: Bermuda
Following the US trip, the King will head to Bermuda for his first official visit as monarch to a British Overseas Territory. Buckingham Palace said the visit will underline the enduring relationship between the UK and its overseas territories.
