As the New Year’s Eve party rages across London, getting home could be tricky. Many revellers will rely on trains to make it back safely. But beware: last train times vary, and some services shut early. Here’s your quick guide to the final departures across major train operators.

  • Avanti West Coast: Last train leaves Euston at 5:52pm, ending services early before New Year’s Day. Next trains run from 6:42am January 1.
  • c2c: Runs a regular Sunday service from London Fenchurch Street. The final train to Shoeburyness departs at 12:11am.
  • Chiltern Railways: Operating a normal Sunday schedule despite staff shortages. Extra late trains run from Marylebone, with the last at 2am to Aylesbury via High Wycombe.
  • Greater Anglia: Early finish with replacement buses on some lines. Last train from Liverpool Street to Southend Victoria leaves at 12:44am.

  • Great Western Railway: Last train from Paddington to Reading pulls out at 1:34am.
  • LNER (London North Eastern Railway): Runs a Sunday service, with the last train from King’s Cross to Leeds at 10:35pm.
  • London Northwestern: One late train leaves Euston at 1:39am to Milton Keynes Central, stopping at nine stations en route.
  • Southeastern: Multiple last trains from Cannon Street (1:40am to Gillingham), Blackfriars (12:30am to Orpington), and Charing Cross (2:40am to Sevenoaks). Plus extra trains between Elephant & Castle and Orpington from 1am to 3am.

  • Thameslink: No overnight trains on New Year’s Eve. Their website warns: “You will not be able to travel with Thameslink after the New Year’s Eve celebrations, so please ensure that you have made alternative plans.”
