As the New Year’s Eve party rages across London, getting home could be tricky. Many revellers will rely on trains to make it back safely. But beware: last train times vary, and some services shut early. Here’s your quick guide to the final departures across major train operators.
Early Shut-Downs and Late Night Boosts
- Avanti West Coast: Last train leaves Euston at 5:52pm, ending services early before New Year’s Day. Next trains run from 6:42am January 1.
- c2c: Runs a regular Sunday service from London Fenchurch Street. The final train to Shoeburyness departs at 12:11am.
- Chiltern Railways: Operating a normal Sunday schedule despite staff shortages. Extra late trains run from Marylebone, with the last at 2am to Aylesbury via High Wycombe.
- Greater Anglia: Early finish with replacement buses on some lines. Last train from Liverpool Street to Southend Victoria leaves at 12:44am.

- Great Western Railway: Last train from Paddington to Reading pulls out at 1:34am.
- LNER (London North Eastern Railway): Runs a Sunday service, with the last train from King’s Cross to Leeds at 10:35pm.
- London Northwestern: One late train leaves Euston at 1:39am to Milton Keynes Central, stopping at nine stations en route.
