A 26-year-old learner was arrested for suspected drug driving while mid-driving test in St Helens. Police from Merseyside Police Roads Policing Unit pulled him over after spotting a dodgy brake light and shoddy driving on King Street.
Police Sniff Out Cannabis at the Wheel
Officers say they caught the smell of cannabis the moment they approached the car. The driver failed a roadside drug test and was found carrying cannabis. His test was immediately terminated and he was hauled in.
Officer Hits Out at Dangerous Drug Driving
Roads Policing Insp Simon Wilson said: “Although some might find it funny that someone was arrested during their driving test, drug driving is deadly serious.”
“The brake light wasn’t working, putting everyone at risk. After speaking with the driver, it was clear we had bigger concerns.”
“Driving under the influence is reckless and selfish – and an offence we prosecute vigorously.”
Shock for Family as Police Step In
The vehicle was handed back to the man’s mother at the test centre, who was “shocked to see a police officer step out instead of her son.” The driver was taken into custody but later released under investigation.
Police added that the brake light issue was intermittent, raising further safety concerns.
