Man airlifted following emergency onboard oil tanker in the English Channel

A man has been airlifted by the coastguard rescue helicopter “Rescue 175” following an incident onboard an oil tanker in the middle of the English Channel. The engineer was winched onboard the helicopter in seas that have been described as dangerous. The dramatic rescue took place in the channel at around about 8.30pm on Wednesday evening The tanker was 20 nautical miles south of the Isle of Wight. The sick man who is understood to have been suffering from kidney stones was than flown back to Lee on the Solent for onward transportation to Southampton general hospital. The Hillhead coastguard search and rescue team who are based at the Lee on Solent base were also scrambled to assit with the medical transfer.
