Man Busted at Dover with Cache of Guns and Ammo

A 24-year-old man has been slammed with multiple firearms charges after police stopped him at Dover port and uncovered a stash of weapons and ammunition.

Arrest and Charges

Khalid Ahmed, 24, from Ealing in west London, faces ten counts of possession of prohibited weapons under the Firearms Act 1968. He’s also charged with possessing banned ammunition. The dual Dutch and Irish national was charged on Tuesday, 31 March, and remains in custody.

Ahmed is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 1 April.

How It Unfolded

Officers stopped Ahmed on 26 March as he arrived from France, questioning him under the Terrorism Act’s schedule 7. Counter Terrorism Police searched his vehicle at Dover and found several self-loading pistols hidden inside. He was immediately arrested.

Following the discovery, a search was carried out at his West London address by Counter Terrorism Policing London.

Ahmed was later detained under further terrorism laws and held until he was formally charged after Crown Prosecution Service approval.

Official Response

Commander Helen Flanagan, Head of Counter Terrorism Policing London, said: “We appreciate this news may be concerning to the public, but since this arrest took place, we have been carrying out a number of enquiries and to-date, we have not identified any imminent threats to the public relating to this.

“Given the man has been charged, it is important there is no further speculation about the case while criminal proceedings are ongoing. But I can reassure the public that our investigation remains ongoing to ensure that the public is kept safe.”
