Shahzad Hussain Locked Up for Seven Years

A 27-year-old man from Keighley has been sentenced to seven years in prison for grooming and having sex with a teenage girl he knew was underage. Shahzad Hussain, of Browsholme Street, was also handed an additional two years on licence after Bradford Crown Court ruled he posed a serious risk to the public.

Sex Offender for Life

Hussain must register as a sex offender for life and will be subject to a 15-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order. The court heard how he deceived the girl by lying about his age, arranged two meetings via social media, and committed two counts of penetrative sexual activity with a child.

Devastating Impact on Victim

The victim’s father described the “devastating and ongoing” consequences, including a marked change in her confidence, persistent fear, anxiety, panic attacks, and disturbed sleep.

Judge Brands Offending “Deliberate” and “Dangerous”

Recorder Richard Paige said Hussain’s actions were deliberate and that he committed further offences despite being explicitly warned after the first encounter. He labelled Hussain a danger to the public and imposed an extended sentence to protect the community.

In mitigation, Hussain accepted the jury’s verdict and apologised, with his barrister stating he acknowledged the gravity of his crimes and had a prior good character.
