A drug addict who launched roof tiles at police during a dramatic stand-off has been locked up. Kyle Watson, 32, was caught on December 23 last year, perched on a roof in Bishop Auckland, throwing tiles at officers below.
Danger on Bridge Street
Watson, who was wanted for recall to prison, endangered officers and nearby pedestrians, narrowly missing Christmas delivery drivers. After hours of chaos, he retreated inside the house planning to take more drugs before being arrested.
Charges and Sentence
- Criminal damage to police car window
- Causing public nuisance
- Possession of Class A and B drugs
Watson, from Toronto, admitted all charges and was sentenced at Durham Crown Court to 15 months behind bars.
Police React
“Watson’s actions that day were reckless and dangerous – it is only by sheer luck that nobody was injured,” said Detective Constable Joshua Chew of South Durham CID.
“He gave no thought to the safety of those in the street below and caused great distress and disruption to nearby residents. I hope he uses his time in prison to reflect on his actions.”
