A heartbreaking case has ended in conviction after a two-year-old Kol Page suffered horrific abuse at home. His mother, Zoe Coutts, and her boyfriend, Scott O’Connor, were found guilty following a Met Police probe that uncovered brutal assaults on the toddler.

Lies, Abuse and Tragedy

Kol was discovered by paramedics on 25 April 2022, not breathing and covered in bruises. Despite surviving the initial injuries — including a severe abdominal wound from a punch or stamp — Kol endured constant suffering. Doctors struggled to manage his pain without risking his life.

The little boy bravely held on for over two years, but tragically died aged four on 29 June 2024.

Throughout the investigation, Coutts and O’Connor tried to dodge blame. They blamed Kol’s severe injuries on his ‘clumsiness’ and even turned on each other in a desperate bid to avoid jail.

Cold Evidence Exposes Brutal Parents

  • Zoe Coutts, 35, of Crayford, was convicted of allowing the death of a child.
  • Scott O’Connor, 36, of Thamesmead, was convicted of manslaughter.

Both were cleared of murder but face sentencing on 8 May at Southwark Crown Court.

Detective Chief Inspector Kate Blackburn said: “Kol was an innocent little boy who suffered horrific abuse in the place he should have been safest — at home. Coutts and O’Connor spun lie after lie to paramedics, doctors and police. It was the relentless detective work that uncovered the awful truth.”

She added, “Kol was boisterous, cheeky, and loved by everyone who knew him. He deserved a bright future but was let down by those who should have protected him.”

The Timeline of Horror

On 24 April 2022, after a night of heavy drinking, Coutts and O’Connor returned home. Police were alerted the next morning to Kol’s critical state. He was found with multiple bruises and severe internal injuries, consistent with violent assault.

  • Kol suffered catastrophic brain damage and disabilities requiring 24/7 care.
  • He spent 14 months in the hospital, then lived with a loving foster family.
  • He passed away two years later from complications linked to his injuries.

O’Connor initially claimed Kol hurt himself by falling out of his cot onto bricks. Coutts told conflicting stories, from falling out of a highchair to being unconscious when she returned from getting a snack.

Both accused the other of causing the injuries, but police evidence painted a darker picture.

Damning Messages and Evidence

Detectives uncovered mobile phone data showing O’Connor visiting the home 28 times in the month before Kol’s collapse, often staying overnight despite restrictions on male visitors.

Photos revealed escalating bruises, black eyes, and even bald patches from hair being torn out. Doctors confirmed these could only have come from adult assaults, not accidents.

The court heard how the couple exchanged chilling messages joking about hurting Kol, such as:

“Jesus slap him back to sleep lol” and “It’s the whining that drives me insane haha.”

Even as Kol lay unconscious, the pair messaged each other about hangovers and dinner plans — never mentioning the boy’s state.

Tragically, Coutts delayed calling an ambulance, choosing instead to call a friend, costing precious time and worsening Kol’s brain damage.

Justice for Kol

Coutts was first arrested on 25 April 2022 and charged with grievous bodily harm and causing or allowing serious harm to a child. After Kol died in 2024, murder charges followed.

O’Connor faced similar arrests and charges.

The Met Police continue to emphasise safeguarding and tackling domestic abuse as a top priority, hoping this case sends a strong message against child cruelty.
