A woman has been locked up for life after being found guilty of killing her two-month-old daughter in a tragic case that shocked West Bromwich.

Shocking Injuries Reveal Truth Behind Baby’s Death

Zara Arsalan, 31, was convicted last month for the 2020 death of baby Harleen. On July 23, emergency services responded to a distress call after Harleen was reported unresponsive following a fall from her mother’s lap.

Paramedics found the infant with unstable breathing and severe head injuries at Arsalan’s West Bromwich home. The little girl was rushed to the hospital but sadly died the following day.

A post-mortem uncovered horrifying details: multiple skull fractures, bleeding on the brain, broken ribs, and a fractured collarbone. Experts confirmed these injuries were inconsistent with a simple fall, suggesting the baby had been violently shaken and slammed against a hard surface.

Justice Delivered: Life Sentence with Minimum 19 Years

Arsalan was arrested and charged with Harleen’s murder. She was sentenced to life imprisonment, with a minimum of 19 years behind bars.

Police Speak Out on Disturbing Case

Detective Chief Inspector Phil Poole from the Homicide Unit said: “This is an incredibly tragic case. Harleen was only two months old when she died at the hands of the person who should have been doing everything to keep her safe.

“Arsalan has never taken responsibility for her actions. Instead, she has repeatedly lied about what happened to Harleen despite being shown evidence that rejects her claims.

“I want to thank all of the officers involved as I know they were deeply affected by this investigation. They have worked incredibly hard to get justice for Harleen and her family.

“I hope today’s sentence finally brings Harleen’s family some peace.”
