Our Thoughts Are With The Irish Coastguard Teams This Evening

Five years ago tonight, at 9.39pm a vessel some 141 nautical miles off the west coast of Ireland made a call for help.

Two Irish Coast Guard Rescue Helicopters answered that call. Rescue 118 from Sligo and Rescue 116 from Dublin. Only one would return.

At 1.46am then next morning Rescue 116 crashed with the loss of four crew. Captain Dara Fitzpatrick, Captain Mark Duffy, Winchman Ciarán Smith and Winch Operator Paul Ormsby.
