Person playing on rocks in Ryde sparks early morning search

A major search involving two of the Islands coastguard search and rescue teams, two lifeboats and the police was carried out in the early hours of Sunday morning. The alarm was raised just after 3.20am, It is understood that a person was playing on rocks in the Ryde esplanade and disappeared. Friends of the person raised the alarm with the police and the coastguard. Two teams of CRT volunteers from Bembridge and Ventnor were called into action and two lifeboats from the independent lifeboat charity Ryde rescue were ordered by the coastguard to carry out search on land and sea for the person who vanished from the rocks. Officers from Hampshire Constablary have also been overseeing the search. Coastguard Rescue Officers conducted a sweep of the beach, harbour pontoons and surrounding areas. Despite a four hour search just after sunrise the search involving many assets has now been called off with no person or persons have been located.
