Clive Tilley Locked Up for Breaking Shop Bans

A notorious shoplifter has been thrown behind bars after ignoring strict restrictions banning him from major supermarkets across Kent. Clive Tilley, 43, with no fixed address, flagrantly breached a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) and has been sentenced to 12 weeks in jail.

Between 27 February and 4 March, Tilley hit multiple stores on four separate occasions in Rochester and Gillingham, snatching goods worth £385. Previously slapped with a CBO banning him from every Co-op, Sainsbury’s, and Tesco in Kent, Tilley blatantly ignored the order.

At Maidstone Crown Court on 7 March, he pleaded guilty to four shoplifting charges and four breaches of his CBO, sealing his sentence. Even after release, the supermarket bans remain firmly in place.

Two Others Face Shoplifting Charges in Ongoing Clampdown

Northern Kent police have also charged two more suspects as they intensify efforts against retail theft. Jake Wilkinson, 33, from Gillingham, faces five charges for stealing over £1,000 worth of goods across stores in Gillingham and Sittingbourne between October 2025 and March 2026. Arrested on 8 March, Wilkinson was released on bail ahead of his 26 May court appearance.

Meanwhile, Shemica Cabral, 33, of London, was nabbed after allegedly shoplifting over £200 from Bluewater Shopping Centre on 8 March. Charged the same day, she is due in Medway Magistrates Court on 7 May.

Police Vow to Step Up Battle Against Shoplifters

“Shoplifting is not a victimless crime and we do not underestimate the damaging impact it has on business owners,” said Superintendent Matthew Burbeck.

He added: “We will continue to work closely with partners, including Business Crime Reduction Partnerships, and shop owners to find joint solutions to tackle shoplifting and antisocial behaviour.”

The crackdown shows no signs of slowing as authorities send a clear message — if you steal in North Kent, you will be caught and punished.
