Rosie Roche, 20, a cousin of Princes William and Harry, has been found dead at her family home in Norton, Wiltshire, with a firearm discovered nearby, authorities confirmed.
Rosie, the granddaughter of Princess Diana’s uncle, was reportedly found by her mother and sister on 14 July, shortly after she had been packing for a holiday with friends.
Police have confirmed that the death is not being treated as suspicious, and that there was no evidence of third-party involvement.
Coroner Confirms Inquest Opened
An inquest into Rosie’s death was opened at Wiltshire and Swindon Coroner’s Court and has been adjourned until 25 October. Coroner Grant Davies said the circumstances surrounding her death are under review but confirmed:
“Police have deemed the death as non-suspicious and there was no third-party involvement.”
Academic and Family Tributes
Rosie was studying English Literature at Durham University. In an obituary published by the Yorkshire Post and The Times, her family described her as a “darling daughter” and “incredible sister”:
“Roche, Rosie Jeanne Burke. Died on Monday 14th July 2025.
Darling daughter of Hugh and Pippa, incredible sister to Archie and Agatha, granddaughter to Derek and Rae Long.
Private family funeral. A memorial service will be held at a later date.”
A family spokesperson added:
“Rosie will be sorely missed.”
A Tragic Pattern
Rosie’s death comes months after another tragedy within the extended royal family. In February 2024, Thomas Kingston, husband of Lady Gabriella Windsor, was found dead with a gunshot wound at his parents’ Cotswolds home. An inquest later ruled he had taken his own life while suffering from adverse effects of prescribed medication.
