Massive Early Morning Blaze Hits Plumstead Car Workshop
About 40 firefighters raced to a blazing car workshop in Vicarage Park, Plumstead at 6:06am today. Six fire engines battled the fierce flames in the pre-dawn darkness, finally bringing the inferno under control by 8:18am.
Dramatic snaps show the workshop engulfed in bright flames, with thick smoke billowing into the sky. Nearby Plumstead Road remains closed, lit by flashing blue emergency lights as crews continue mopping up the damage.
Firefighters From Five Stations Join the Battle
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson revealed the huge response. We received 11 calls about the fire early this morning,” they said.
- Crews from Plumstead, East Greenwich, Eltham, Erith, and Lee Green were sent to the scene.
- Included was a 32-metre turntable ladder from East Greenwich – a major boost to fight the blaze.
“Firefighters worked swiftly to bring the blaze under control by 8:18am and will remain on site through the morning to fully extinguish hotspots,” the spokesperson added.
Cause of Fire Unknown as Building Collapses
The fire’s intensity caused part of the workshop building to collapse, sending thick plumes of smoke into the air. Fire authorities confirmed the cause is still a mystery, with investigations ongoing.
