A substation fire in High Street, Wickford that broke out earlier today has spread to a derelict building, prompting an extended firefighting operation by Essex County Fire and Rescue Service.
The fire, which began in the afternoon of Sunday, 18 May 2025, was brought under partial control after the electricity supply was isolated, allowing firefighters to extinguish the substation blaze at 4.06pm.
Fire Spreads to Adjacent Structure
Despite the substation fire being controlled, flames spread rapidly to a nearby derelict building, and crews remain on scene tackling the blaze.
