Friends of Ben Wright, who died after a brutal assault outside a pub, have raised over £17,000 to give him the “incredible send-off” he deserves.
Man Dies After Attack Outside Irlam Pub
Ben was attacked outside Dessie’s Place on Liverpool Road, Irlam, just before 3am on 29 March 2026. He was rushed to hospital but sadly died two days later. Greater Manchester Police quickly launched a murder investigation. Three men, all in their 20s and initially arrested for assault, have since been released on bail while inquiries continue.
Friends Rally With Fundraiser
Ben’s mates set up a GoFundMe to support his family and cover funeral costs. Organiser Steven Barlow described Ben as a man who “truly loved his family and friends” and excelled at bringing people together.
“He had a gift for bringing people together and making everyone feel welcome, and that is something we will never forget,” Mr Barlow said. “Anyone who knew Ben will have at least one special memory of him, and we want to come together to make sure he gets an incredible send-off that truly celebrates his life and everything he meant to us.”
Publican Pays Heartfelt Tribute
Dessie’s Place shared a moving statement on Facebook, revealing Ben as a former staff member and beloved regular.
“It’s with heavy hearts we share the sad news that our dear friend Ben has passed away. Ben wasn’t just someone who worked with us; he was part of our family. He loved the pub, the people in it, and all the regulars who walked through those doors. He was one of us… not just a regular, but one of the best, and everybody knew and loved him. His smile, his laugh, and his presence brought so much life into the place, and it simply won’t be the same without him. We will miss him more than words can ever say, and he will never ever be forgotten.”
Police Appeal for Witnesses
Detective Chief Inspector Helen Bagnall of Salford district said: “This is a shocking incident and our thoughts are firmly with the victim and his family during this extremely difficult time. “We are working at pace and remain absolutely committed to identifying everyone involved and bringing those responsible to justice. Three arrests have been made, and we are continuing to appeal for further information. “Officers remain committed to understanding the full circumstances and urge anyone with information to come forward.” All remaining fundraiser money will be given to Ben’s immediate family to help them through this “incredibly difficult time.” If you have any information about the attack, please report it to Greater Manchester Police via their public portal.
